The consistent use of optical fibres up to the subscriber instead of installing separated networks for voice, data and video facilitates the implementation of a universal Triple Play network for all three services. This is the most future-proof solution for the transmission of 100 Mbps without any distance problems.
In particular point-to-point systems provide the highest degree of future-proofness for FTTH (Fibre-to-the-Home) connections. Currently switched Fast Ethernet is the solution of choice providing each subscriber with a P2P connection at data rates of 100 Mbps. The central components and the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) made by Nexans have specifically been designed for this purpose. Moreover, the Nexans CPE offers a special technology for the efficient multicast transmission of Video over IP, ports for connecting traditional telephones (POTS) as well as particularly high security and data integrity.
Unlike shared technologies, such as tree-structured passive optical networks (PON), Ethernet can be used to deploy scalable networks at data rates up to the gigabit range without changing the infrastructure.
