Economy of Vacuum Insulated Lines

Send link to this page Your Nexans contact on this page

Storage and transport of liquid nitrogen cause losses so that a part of the liquid nitrogen cannot be used for the real process. The loss rate can be considerably influenced by the quality of the line. Investing in a vacuum insulated line means high nitrogen savings in comparison with a simple conventionally insulated line, and the investment might be compensated after one year only.

Please use the following table for calculation of your own requirements. Insert your individual nitrogen price (1 kg = 0.855 m2 gas).

Type of Insulation Loss rate Operating hours per year Loss/m in kg LN2       €/        kg LN2 Loss in €/m
foam 20 Watt/m 2000 725 ... ...
vacuum insulated 1-2 Watt/m 2000 36-72.5 ... ...

Savings: ............ EUR/meter/year

Example:

You pay EUR 0.50 per kg LN2.

With a foam insulated line you will have a loss of about 360.- EUR per meter line length at 2000 operating hours per year.
With a foam insulated line of e.g. approx. 50 m length you will have a total loss of 50 x 360.- EUR = EUR 18,000.-.
The total loss with a vacuum insulated line will be 50 x approx. 18.- EUR = 900.- EUR.
With this example the total saving per year will be 17.100.- EUR.
The price for a vacuum insulated line is much less than this amount.

You will agree, it is worthwhile to replace old conventional lines by modern economic ones.
If actually there are no funds available for new investments please ask for Cryo Leasing. As the rates are lower than the savings you will attain, it is worthwhile in any case.
