Submarine cables and cables for Offshore Windparks must be resistant to corrosion and abrasion caused by sea currents, waves as well as human and vegatation attack. At the same time they must be capable of offering a maximum of efficiency over long distances.
Nexans supplies different types of submarine power cables depending on the specific requirements and site conditions and can include control and fibre optic elements / cables.
The general cables design is based on the mayor national and international standards e.g. DIN VDE, IEC and ICEA or according to customers standards. They are applied for operation voltages of 12 kV - 36 kV (Higher voltages and EPR-insulated cables on request).
Since the early 70ies, Nexans has been a supplier of XLPE-insulated submarine power cables for customers all over the world. Such cables are used to supply power to lighthouses, offshore oil and gas plattforms, and to islands such as the North and East Frisians, the energy supply of which is secured by Nexans submarine cables.
The cable design is determined by a variety of requirements and environmental conditions - with conformance to national and international standards always to be kept in mind. Since requirements and environmental conditions for each project differ greatly, submarine power cables design are always project-specific.
For the internal cabling of windparks, maintenance free 36kV-XLPE cables with integrated optical fibre elements for data communication, are the tried and tested products to be chosen.
