The locations of Nexans Deutschland benefit from the knowledge of the globally active Nexans Group as well as from experiences from other fields. For instance, cables for wind turbines use expertise gained in mining: a gigantic lignite excavator used in open pit mining and the gondola of a wind turbine are both mobile and exposed to the weather. However, cables designed for continual torsional and bending stress would become brittle under these conditions – in contrast, the weather-resistant Nexans sheathing material remains flexible for decades.
New ways of producing energy require new solutions. For the safe transportation of renewable electricity, new technologies such as wind energy and photovoltaics require special cables and cabling systems. Nexans designs them – together with the appropriate accessories. Thanks to our own research, users of new developments benefit from Nexans' expertise within many sectors and from safe, environmentally-friendly materials and production processes.
For example with the WINDLINK® brand, Nexans supplies cables and cabling systems for wind turbines. The range includes all areas of application from the nacelle to the foundation. There are also suitable solutions for connecting wind farms to the network – whether onshore or offshore. Experience of offshore systems of more than three decades are reflected in the weather resistance and durability of the cables and their accessories.
The cable industry has launched cables on the market which can be used in photovoltaic systems for longer periods of time. Nexans’ ENERGYFLEX™ belongs to this new generation. ENERGYFLEX™ is also resistant to UV light and ozone and is therefore suitable for use as a PV cable over more than 25 years.
In addition to these Nexans innovations many others are ensuring progress in water, on land and in the air: for improved energy supply, quicker data transfer and greater reliability of infrastructure grids. Cables are not simply cables – they are products which change our lives but also ensure sustainable and climate-friendly energy supply.
