Moenchengladbach (Germany), 5 August 2010 – The Rolling Stock division of Nexans Deutschland GmbH is to produce more than 3,000 km of cable for Warsaw’s new trams by the end of 2012 in its Moenchengladbach and Nuremberg plants. Nexans Polska Sp. z o.o. (Racibórz) recently received the order which is worth 3.3 million euros. The customer is Poland’s largest manufacturer of rail vehicles, PESA Bydgoszcz SA, which is headquartered in Bydgoszcz, Poland. PESA is to install the energy and electronics cables in 186 trams destined for tram operator, Tramwaje Warszawskie.
The Polish capital is modernising its tram fleet as part of its preparations to meet the run of football fans attending the UEFA EURO 2012 matches: some of the low-floor trams, which are equipped with air conditioning, CCTV systems and extendable ramps for children’s buggies and wheelchairs etc., are expected to be in use even before the EURO begins. The last tram is set to be delivered by the end of 2013.
