Moenchengladbach, April 4, 2011 – Nexans and vitronet Holding GmbH, Essen, a service provider for the planning, commissioning and marketing of telecommunication networks, are bundling their experience in the field of network technology for energy providers. The goal of the partnership is to create complete system and infrastructure solutions for Smart Grid and Fiber-to-the-Home networks of energy providers. With ten years of experience in designing and creating municipal fiber-optic-based access networks as well as line-based cable systems, vitronet is supporting the globally operating cable manufacturer in planning, constructing and servicing fiber-optic cables. Nexans customers will thus receive comprehensive complete solutions from a single source: passive fiber-optic components, optimised fiber-optic cables and active system technology for energy and communication networks.
Gerd Filthaut, Director of Advanced Networking Solutions at Nexans, regards the creation of a dedicated telecommunication infrastructure for energy providers as very important: “By simultaneously laying fiber-optic cables when expanding the electricity and gas network, we can generate clear infrastructure synergies. The energy utilities of the future will thus be able to position themselves as an all-round supplier for electricity, gas, water, heat and telecommunication.”
“By means of a modern fiber-optic infrastructure with high Internet bandwidths of 100 megabits per second and more, public services can develop the broadband network business field for the community at large in a logical, cost-effective manner. They can create added value for their customers, thereby increasing customer loyalty. Added to this is the strategic advantage of controlling the information transport for Smart-Grid applications and other energy-related services oneself via dedicated broadband net-works,“ says Hardy Zitnik, Manager of Sales & Marketing at vitronet Holding GmbH, of the prospects for the utilities.
