Paris, March 19, 2002 - Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has been awarded an additional umbilical cable of 43.4 km length to the Nakika host for Shell's Coulomb field. The Coulomb umbilical cable comprises 4 x 1" steel tubes and 8 x 1/2" steel tubes, which transport hydraulic fluids for well control, and 3 electrical quads for supplying electrical power and telecommunications signals from the NaKika host platform to the subsea wells.

Nexans won the Shell/BP NaKika contract back in December 2000, supplying nine umbilical cables, with a cumulative length of 91,6 km. These umbilical cables interlink five subsea developed oil and gas fields to the NaKika host platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

Yvon Raak, President of Nexans Energy Division, said of the contract, "We are delighted to have once again been selected by Shell, reinforcing our reputation as a global leader in the umbilical market."

The umbilical systems will be manufactured at the Nexans Halden plant, in Norway, and are scheduled for completion by 1st January 2003.
