Nexans adapts a new organizational structure

Paris, June 12, 2003 ? Two years after being listed on the Paris stock exchange, Nexans announces implementation of a new organizational structure to better meet the business challenges facing its activities today.

This new organization is designed to accelerate sales development and reduce structural costs. It replaces a matrix organization, based on Product Lines, by a more response-oriented organization that?s closer to customers and markets and gives operational responsibility for sales and production to the countries in which the Group is present.

The Strategic Operations Department has been reinforced and assumes responsibility of marketing strategy development by markets and unites the Group's operational support functions.

The following appointments have been made:

Pascal Portevin, Executive Vice President Strategic Operations

Yvon Raak, Executive Vice President Europe Area

Michel Lemaire, Executive Vice President North America and Asia Area

Bruno Thomas, Executive Vice President Rest of the World Area

Michel Lemaire, Pascal Portevin, Yvon Raak and Bruno Thomas, along with Véronique Guillot-Pelpel, Senior Corporate VP Communications, François Saint-Dizier, Senior Corporate VP Human Resources and Frédéric Vincent, Chief Financial Officer, are members of the Executive Committee of Nexans, chaired by Gérard Hauser, the Chairman and CEO.

This new organization, which will take effect on July 1st, 2003, will not change the reporting of the Group results by activity.

 

CVs of appointees

Pascal Portevin, Executive Vice President Strategic Operations

Pascal Portevin was until now President of Nexans? Telecom Division. In 1999 he was appointed Managing Director of General Market product line within the Cables and Components sector of Alcatel after having headed the Telecommunications Cables activity. From 1993 to 1996 he was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alcatel Fibres Optiques, then Director of Operations of the Optical Fibres product line. From 1990 to 1993 he was Technical Director of Alcatel North America when the optical fibres factory of Claremount (North Carolina) was being built. He began his career at Câbles de Lyon in 1985.

Yvon Raak, Executive Vice President Europe Area

Yvon Raak was until now President of Nexans? Energy Division. He joined the Cables and Components sector of Alcatel in 1999 as President of Telecom Products within the Executive Committee. From 1997 to 1999 he was Chairman and CEO of Alstom Énergie SA, and Senior Vice-President, Strategy & Management of Alstom Énergie. He joined Alstom in 1992 as Director before being appointed Chairman & CEO of European Gas Turbine SA. He began his career with Alcatel as Plant Manager at the Jeumont plant of Câbleries de Lens (France).

Michel Lemaire, Executive Vice-President of the North America and Asia Area

Michel Lemaire was until now President of Nexans? Electrical Wires Division. He was previously Director of Human Resources at Alcatel Telecom France from 1996 to 1998. Prior to this, from 1993 to 1995, he was Director of Human Resources and Communication at Pinault-Printemps- Redoute. He joined Saint-Gobain in 1984, also as Director of Human Resources.

Bruno Thomas, Executive Vice President Rest of World Area

Bruno Thomas was until now Senior Corporate VP, Strategic Operations. He was previously President of the Energy Cables Division, President of the board of Alcatel Kabel KG and Director of Industrial Strategy. In 1992 he was appointed Vice-President of Alcatel Cable, in charge of the France sector. He joined Alcatel in 1986 as General Director of Câbleries de Lens, with responsibility for the Benelux sector. He began his career at Usinor in 1968.
