Nexans completes its product portfolio of cabling and systems solutions for rail transportation and industry
Nexans acquires Swiss system specialist Confecta
Mönchengladbach, February 2006 – As from 25 January 2006, Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, is the owner of Confecta Holding AG. Confecta is a leading provider of cabling and systems solutions for rail transportation and industry, and achieved sales of approximately 22 million euros with about 180 employees last year. The company’s headquarters are located in Sitterdorf (Switzerland). Nexans’ cable sets business area serves the automotive, construction equipment, rail, industrial, military and space markets with high-quality cable solutions and systems, and will be able to further enhance its product spectrum through the acquisition of Confecta.
A strong expertise for a promising future
Confecta will continue to distribute its products under its own name. Confecta’s workforce has also been transferred to Nexans. Christoph Vonplon will continue to manage the business, while the 54 year-old company founder and former majority shareholder, Willy Rudolf, is to retire. By selling his shares to Nexans, he has ensured the company’s continuation and growth.
Commitment for innovation
Willy Rudolf developed the company over a period of about 15 years and is now passing it on along with a number of big-name clients. Confecta’s high acceptance with rail vehicle manufacturers is partly due to specialised industry development and the high quality of its cable modules and systems. Confecta’s market-oriented philosophy is defined by its drive for innovation. This is shown in the integration of mechanical and electronic components into ready-to-install function modules as well as in circuit production.
Norbert Pühl, business unit manager of the “Industry” division within harnessess business area at Nexans autoelectric, says: “Our “Industry” segment is focused primarily on the rail, construction equipment, military and space segments. Confecta’s products enhance the portfolio in the areas of rail transport and machine construction seamlessly.”
Huge growth potential
Confecta is best known by industry experts in German-speaking countries and in France. Norbert Pühl and Confecta’s managing director, Christoph Vonplon, see huge growth potential through the penetration of these “home markets” as well as in other European countries.
