Nexans wins major Order for Shanghai Transrapid Project
The motor winding, installed along the total length of the track belongs to the key components in the system of magnetic levitation technology, providing non-contact driving power for the planned operating speed of 420 km/h and a maximum speed of up to 500 km/h.
For the 30 km Transrapid track, a rubber-insulated 20 kV cable for stator winding with a total length of approximately 1,000 km is used. This cable is converted into a three-phase motor winding on the track and installed. In Shanghai, the product, as well as the highly automated laying technique the project requires, will be used in a large-scale project for the first time. Nexans has years of experience in this field. The Transrapid test line, built in the 1980s in Emsland/Germany, had nearly completely been equipped with a linear motor winding system from Nexans.
In addition to manufacturing the components, Nexans? specialists will support the system installation to be carried out by the Chinese customer in cooperation with ThyssenKrupp.
Deliveries for the project will start in July this year and will continue in 2002. The equipment will be produced at Nexans? Mönchengladbach (Germany) site.
