Nexans exhibits new railway cables for European rolling stock at Innotrans, Berlin

Mönchengladbach, September 20, 2004 – Nexans will exhibit its new range of approved EN and BS specified railway cables at this year’s Innotrans exhibition in Berlin, which are designed to meet the introduction of the latest European standards in cabling.

While maintaining existing insulation properties and functionality, the standardised cables will simplify customers’ technical specification requests and streamline international approval procedures for rolling stock.

Nexans will also be exhibiting its new MSZ control cable, designed for safety applications, such as door opening systems, loud speaker cabling and power supplies.

The new range of cables includes a 120 Ohm WTB bus cable with an exterior diameter of 8.0 mm +/- 0.3 mm – matching the same dimensions as the MVB bus cable.

All Nexans’ railway cables are corrosion-proof, flame-retardant and have a low toxicity and optical smoke density.

The railway cable market is characterised by a variety of international, national and company-specific regulations, and customer requirements always differ. The introduction of European standards points the way ahead for improved transparency within the industry, ensuring harmonised regulations in the future.

Dr. Horst Obermeyer, Global Product Manager for Nexans’ railway sector says: ”With a diversified range of cable products for all railway applications Nexans is presenting itself as a system supplier for the fabrication business, and takes up the challenges of globalisation.”
