Rheyhalon® Solar cable is optimised for PV applications
At Intersolar 2007, Nexans is presenting a new cable developed to ensure over 25 years of faultless operations for PV equimpent
RHEYHALON® Solar fulfils the requirement profile for PV cables issued by the DKE (Deutsche Kommission Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik im DIN und VDE – German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies of DIN and VDE), Frankfurt. This profile was compiled in collaboration with users and cable manufacturers and presented in March 2007. Its most stringent specifications guarantee the safety and longevity of PV equipment.
The impetus for this collaboration was because rubber sheathed cables frequently used in the past exhibited serious deficiencies: after several years of use, faults began to occur and impaired not only the function of the equipment but also posed a hazard to humans and animals. Light and ozone in particular had a detrimental effect on these cables. Infestation by microorganisms, for example fungi and algae, also increased corrosion of the cables. Likewise, reactions of the insulating material with oxygen, oils or fats combined with mechanical stresses resulted in signs of ageing such as brittleness and hairline cracks or even loss of material and disintegration.
The insulating material used by RHEYHALON® Solar is unaffected by these climatic and environmental influences and offers protection against cable corrosion for over ell over 25 years. The durability and longevity of the cable has already been demonstrated in comprehensive laboratory and climatic chamber tests. The TÜV has also checked that the guaranteed characteristics of the cable are maintained.
