Based on decades of experience, Nexans Nuremberg plant offers fire and chemical testing to Nexans entities and external customers. We are a worldwide player and leader in fire safety with long-term materials expertise, making a valuable contribution to the development of international standards.

  • Our know-how of polymeric materials, processes and testing equipment has been built up over many years. Our expertise covers combustion behaviour and material tests for cabling and wires. In addition, we offer a wide range of analytical methods or mechanical tests for materials not limited to the cable industry.
  • Testing is carried out at our Nuremberg testing competence centre on materials and fire safety.
  • Since 2009, we hold a DAkkS accreditation for test laboratories according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. Any internal or external customer can send us samples and expect our full support for an independent evaluation. As a proof of independency, we already the platform perform tests for some of the leading certification bodies.

Test on cables

Testing is carried out at our Nuremberg testing competence centre on materials and fire safety.

Whatever standard your cable needs to comply to, with over 40 accredited tests, we have got you covered. We have very specific skills in the area of fire testing.

All fire tests on cable are accredited, but not limited to a specific market. Therefore we can test all kinds of cables such as automotive, automation, aerospace, wind turbines, or rolling stock indutry.

Any internal or external customer can send us samples and expect our full support for an independent evaluation. As a proof of independency, we already perform test for some of the leading certification bodies.

Test of materials

Based on our experience in material development, we are also accredited to test materials.

Our chemical lab combines materials testing expertise with in-depth analytical evaluation. Through deep-dive analytical tests, we can evaluate materials very precisely using analytical capabilities such as infrared spectroscopy (IR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), high-performance thin layer chromatography (TC) or gas chromatography (GC).

Our expertise and facilities make it possible to use materials testing for quality assurance and benchmarking purposes. We can analyze the material and see whether the formula is appropriate for the intended goal, or where it deviates from a specification.

That makes it possible to answer all kinds of questions: was there a problem in the compounding process? Or in processing? We can explain the issues and find a solution. Pretesting a certain design or material is also possible, or we can cross-check methods and equipment to verify testing carried out elsewhere.  We can also help to qualify alternative materials, find the cause of errors and defects, define corrective actions, and support process and quality improvement
