Construction of the Panattoni Campus Hanover Centre has begun with the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony. One of the largest inner-city revitalisation projects in northern Germany is being built on the historic Brink-Hafen Hanover industrial site. Nexans has been using the site for over 100 years, and will move into a modern build-to-suit building here.

Panattoni plans to develop the 168,000 m² brownfield site over a period of approximately three years. The campus will comprise three different property types and offer a total of 100,000 m² of usable space, including 59,400 m² for Panattoni Park and 13,400 m² for the "City Dock" business park component. Nexans will occupy an area of around 9,000 m² as an anchor tenant.

The former industrial site has an impressive 130-year history. Nexans took over the facility in 2000, which was originally founded in 1906 by Louis Hackethal under the name "Hackethal-Draht GmbH". Telephone cables and insulation material were manufactured here. In 2000, the site was acquired by Nexans. Until the plant closed 19 years later, the site was responsible for the largest cable production in Germany and also served as Nexans' German headquarters.

“ In our new build-to-suit building, which will include a high-voltage test field, we will combine engineering and services under one roof for the construction of infrastructure for electrical energy transmission, including superconducting cables, as well as for cold liquefied hydrogen (LH2) and high-precision laser forming and welding machines.

With this combined expertise and our pioneering spirit, we are focused on the future of sustainability and electrification. Together we are shaping the future of energy transmission and setting new standards for innovation and sustainability. ”

The Panattoni Campus Hannover Centre creates opportunities for cross-industry cooperation and positive synergy effects. For example, this enables logistics service providers to form alliances with neighbouring production companies in order to avoid long and costly transport routes.

The city of Hannover also benefits from this revitalised business park by creating new jobs close to home.
